IIEST Develops India's First Smart Grid Project to Generate Power from Renewable Energy
- IIEST has successfully created country's first smart grid project.
- The smart grid will be synchronised in such a way that it generates power from renewable sources of energy like wind, solar, sunlight and also from the vegetable waste.
The Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST) has successfully developed India's first smart grid project. With this project, our country will be able to generate power from the renewable energy sources. This project will soon be inaugurated by President Pranab Mukherjee and Prof Ajoy Kumar Roy, the director of IIEST.
Ajoy Roy, while explaining the working of the project, revealed that this project is first of its kind in India. The smart grid will be synchronised in such a way that it generates power from renewable sources of energy like wind, solar, sunlight and also from the vegetable waste, depending on the availability of waste products and weather conditions.

He further said that power generation from wind energy can be produced only during the tropical storm while the power to be produced through solar energy will depend on the sunlight availability. Vegetable wastes which can be collected from the markets and campus kitchen will help to generate power from biogas.
IIEST director also revealed that with the integrated project by the Centre for Excellence for Green Energy Systems (CEGESS) of the institute, they aim to produce 32 KW of power from any renewable resource available and then synchronise the smart grid to use the power in the system depending on the availability.
He expressed that this project will help to deal with the world which is to face a critical situation in future with the depletion of hydrocarbon sources. As the coal-hydrocarbon energy based technology results in environmental degradation, the future depends on the technology based on renewable energy sources.

He further added that the government planners and academicians should play a major role in the same since technology is changing very fast. The coming 50 years will witness drastic dynamic changes in technology. An eminent scientist revealed that the institute needs to look forward in the age of smart technology.
