The Indian Institute of Engineering and Science Technology of Shibpur, (IIEST Shibpur), had now decided to do away with the dual degree from its offerings. The five-year integrated course that was a dual degree (B.Tech & M.Tech) will no longer be continued from the upcoming academic session starting 2017.
Instead, IIEST plans to re-introduce its Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) programme after nearly a span of three years.

Till now, the premier institute granted admission to about 650 students every year in the integrated or dual degree programme.
However, for students who are currently pursuing their fifth semester at the institute (third year B.Tech part of the course) will have the option to notify to the college as to whether or not they wish to pursue M.Tech further as a part of the integrated five-year programme. Also, it is to be noted that even if they wish to pursue M.Tech, they should have obtained the minimum score or marks that are mandatory to complete the M.Tech part of the course in one year. Only a limited number of candidates will be able to pursue the dual degree forward. Moreover, the institute also plans to introduce an option at the end of the fourth year or the eighth semester of the programme.
On the other hand, the engineering and technology institute will continue to offer its two-year Master of Technology programme as the usual schedule, admissions to which will be based on the score secured in the Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineering or GATE.
