IIFT Organises 51st Convocation Ceremony

Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) celebrated the 51st convocation ceremony on a grand note on July 28, 2017. Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of Commerce was the Chief Guest of the occasion. Addressing the students, Sitharaman insisted the students think about replacing traditional convocation gowns with ethnic attire. She advised the institute and students to come up with a new idea by the next convocation ceremony.

She said that the institute could hold a competition among them to come up with different ideas for replacing the gowns. She added that she did not wear traditional convocation gown by choice. Also, one must feel proud of following their traditions.

Commerce Secretary, Rita Teaotia indicated that India must work towards generating a qualified and skilled workforce who are required in various domains. India shall emerge as a globally competitive country in the manufacturing sector.

Mr. Binoy Kumar who is the Director of Indian Institute of Foreign Trade pointed that IIFT has been ranked as one of the top institutes in the Asia Pacific region.

Giving details about the placements of 2016-17, Mr. Binoy Kumar revealed that the institute was successful in placing 258 students in various companies across the world. Three students bagged decent placements with the highest package going up to Rs. 1 crore per annum. Further, six students were selected by reputed companies at an annual salary of Rs. 75 lakh. It was the first time where IIFT placed the largest batch of 258 students.

Chief Guest of the convocation ceremony awarded degrees to the students and wished them a bright future ahead.
