IIHMR University Partners with BRLF for Certificate Programme in Rural Livelihoods
The programme inculcates a strong field-based learning approach. The programme focuses on combing relevant knowledge and skill components through a different yet inclusive capacity building initiative.
Institute of Health Management Research (IIHMR) and Bharat Rural Livelihood Foundation has collaborated to launch the first batch of Certificate Programme in Rural Livelihoods. The duration of the course is six months. It is a residential course which offers a clear-cut idea and critical understanding of rural livelihood in India. The programme inculcates a strong field-based learning approach. It focuses on combing relevant knowledge and skill components through a different yet inclusive capacity building initiative.

The programme also aims at the development of capacities of tribal youth from ten states of central Indian tribal belt. IIHMR and BRLF have brought together 15 leading organisations in the rural livelihood sector to facilitate a multi-topic and multi-centre curriculum which covers different dimensions of rural livelihoods.
A total number of 30 candidates have been selected for the first batch and all these students hail from Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chattisgarh, Maharashtra and Odisha. All the 30 students of the first batch belong to scheduled tribes, notified/de-notified tribes and vulnerable tribal groups or communities.

President of IIHMR, Prof. Vivek Bhandari explained that the partnership between IIHMR and BRLF would significantly enhance capacity to impact the rural development sector. Under this programme, the students will not only receive theoretical knowledge but also practical application and exposure.
Dr. Mihir Shah, President of BRLF, mentioned that the main objective of BRLF is to create a pool of rural development professionals for supporting various development interventions of government, CSOs and community as a whole. He further added that the course would be a game changer in the rural livelihood sector since the design and delivery of the course will provide a unique opportunity for tribal youth to learn various livelihood domains and address the issue of growing shortage of trained human resource in the sector.
