IIIT Bengaluru to Launch PG Diploma to Impart Software Skills

International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Bengaluru is starting a postgraduate diploma programme in order to train 10,000 engineering students and working professionals in smart software skills.
The duration of the programme will be 11 months and throughout the programme, the students will be provided with hands-on learning that will help them in enhancing their software skills in order to stay updated with the changes in the IT industry.
IIIT Bengaluru has collaborated with UpGrad – an online education firm - Co-founders Ronnie Screwvala and Mayank Kumar. The firm will provide the institute in creating the human capital required to start the PG diploma course.
Director of IIIT Bengaluru, S. Sadagopan, said that the IT industry is undergoing some major changes in terms of automation, digitalization and data. The Director also said that this will introduce new type of job opportunities.
As engineering graduates are well versed in the core computer science concepts and principles of software engineering, this PG diploma course will prepare them for product focused jobs.

In the coming years, developers who rely on open source technologies, software as a service and Application Programme Interface will have to adopt product centric thinking rather than working towards services-centric thinking.
This programme will help aspirants in developing a creative method of solving problems. It will also help them in becoming critical thinkers who will be able to face the challenges of the changing technology era.

The programme will also try to fill the gap between the industry requirements and the talent supply. According to a survey conducted by Aspiring Mind, 95% of the students who study computer science and IT-related fields are unable to meet the requirements of the industry. The programme will enable the candidates to fulfill these requirements and get lucrative jobs.
