IIIT Delhi Introduces BTech in Electronics, VLSI Engineering: Check more Details
IIIT Delhi has introduced a BTech in Electronics course and a very large-scale integration (VLSI) engineering programme (EVE). Find out more details about the new courses offered by IIIT Delhi.
Indraprastha Institute of Information and Technology (IIIT) in Delhi has introduced a BTech in Electronics and a very large-scale integration (VLSI) engineering programme (EVE). The institute will provide the course for the very first time in the EE+X format, where EE stands for electronics engineering and X for other fields of technology or knowledge that complement electrical engineering.
The EVE programme will prepare students for pursuing careers in the technology industry, further education for a career in research, or even entrepreneurial endeavours. IIIT Delhi seeks to strike a balance between a fixed set of VLSI-specific core courses and the option for students to select interest-based courses.
The course covers fundamental theoretical aspects of engineering and enables them to develop problem-solving skills. The curriculum begins with computing and electronics courses and allows for the completion of additional science courses later on. In addition to that, students will also have access to elective courses that correspond to five career paths in the VLSI industry and academia.
Major Highlights
|
Anuj Grover, associate professor in the electronics and communication engineering department at IIIT Delhi, stated, "The country faces a severe shortage of skilled labour in the semiconductor industry." India needs more than 85,000 VLSI engineers within the next few years to realise its vision of becoming more self-sufficient.
The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) issued a notification in April 2022 encouraging institutes to launch UG programmes in VLSI design and technology. IIIT-Delhi is also investigating ways to expose EVE students to semiconductor fabrication (manufacturing) and is planning to establish a fabrication facility or forge partnerships with existing facilities in the region. This exposure will distinguish the students even further from graduates of other institutions.
