IIIT Hyderabad Introduces a Med-tech Entrepreneurship Programme
The International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad will start a programme for its post-doctorate students. The programme will entail creating products in the healthcare arena by technological aid.
The Centre of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE) of the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIIT-H) has introduced Ojas, a postdoctoral programme of entrepreneurship. Ojas is an efficient med tech incubator within the CIE which is primarily for companies that build solutions in the area of healthcare which are technology-enabled.
The incubator has started a programme for those scientists who are completing their doctorate degrees (Ph.Ds) and are keen on pursuing a career in entrepreneurship. The programme provides post-doctoral training which is focused on forming a technology-enabled solution (application, device, digital tool) for addressing problems in the sector of healthcare.

The interested scientist will have to select a professor from the faculty of IIIT Hyderabad, who will guide the scientist along the work. The Ph.D supervisor of the interested candidate can also be the project’s collaborator provided the idea of the product is based on the thesis work of the candidate. A stipend will be provided to the candidate for a tenure of 12 months and it can also be extended for a year more.
At the end of the period of this programme, it is expected of the scientist to incorporate a company and then take the product forward. The company will get a seed funding of up to Rs. 25 lakhs upon incorporation. A network of investors will be accessible by the entrepreneur. The programme will be open to those candidates who are most likely to submit their Ph.D thesis in the year 2019. They are expected to start latest by 1st October 2019. The deadline for submitting the application is 25th April 2019, Thursday.

The head of Innovation and Strategy, Ojas, Dr. Radha Rangarajan talked about the programme and said that this post-doctorate entrepreneurship course is designed for those students who want to leverage their skills in research and build products for healthcare. It is a highly structured programme which will permit a gradual and visible transition reaching from academia to entrepreneurship.
