IIIT Hyderabad Students Bag Internship Opportunity at Berkeley Lab

A Building Science Research scholar at IIIT (Indian Institute of Information Technology) Hyderabad, Sneha Jain has bagged an internship opportunity at the prestigious Berkeley Lab (Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory) the USA. She will be associated with the lab for six months as a part of the internship. Sneha will be flying to California in February.

The internship opportunity, namely ‘The Building Energy Efficiency Higher and Advanced Network (BHAVAN)' is the collaborative initiative of Indo-US Science and Technology Forum and Department of Science and Technology (India). The major motive of the BHAVAN internship is to provide avenues of collaboration between scientists and students from the US and India.

A total of 12 students were from selected for BHAVAN Internship. Sneha’s research work is on strategies and possibilities to minimise overheating and glare in buildings, particularly due to the emerging glass facades. She will pursue the internship under the guidance of Professor Christian Kohler – HOD of Building Technology Department at Berkeley Lab.

Professor Christian Kohler visited IIIT Hyderabad last year. For the past two decades, he has been working on improving building energy efficiency using the latest daylight technologies and intelligent facades with HVAC Systems and lighting controls.

The 25-year-old Sneha is a B.Arch graduate. After graduation, she turned towards research aspects of technical performance of buildings. Building Science is an interdisciplinary course that includes elements of mass transport physics, heat, sustainable building, meteorology, architecture, illumination engineering and construction technology. A limited number of institutes in India offer a course in Building Science.
