IIIT-Nagpur Reduces Student Intake by 40 for First Batch

The governing body of the Indian Institute of Information Technology-Nagpur (IIIT-N) reduced student intake from 120 to 80. The reason behind the move is primarily due to inadequate infrastructure at its makeshift BSNL Regional Telecom Training Centre campus at Seminary Hills to cater to such a large number of students. Earlier, it was planned to have 60 seats each in electronics and telecommunications (E&T) and computer science engineering (CSE) branches.

Selection Procedure: Students will have to clear JEE(Joint entrance exam score)

Fees: Rs. 90 thousand a year

The plan would be placed before the next ad hoc board of governors meeting before being approved.

This institute is Government-private model.

IT bellwether TCS and city-based ADCC are other partners in the IIIT-N while search for fifth one is still on. Both will hold 7.5% stake each, while state and centre would have 35% and 50% share respectively. The MHRD would be providing 100 crore, state 35 crore, while 20 crore would be pumped in by TCS for setting up the centrally-sponsored institution.

IIIT-N is among 20 institutions set by the central government on PPP model with an objective to develop professional expertise and skilled manpower in Information Technology (IT) and related areas as need of IT skilled people in IT industry of India.

Most of the staff is from VNIT Nagpur who is looking after IIIT Nagpur.
