IIIT Nagpur to Increase Intake from 2018; 120 Seats to be Added
Analyzing the success of the first year of operations at the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Nagpur, its Board of Governors have agreed to increase the intake of the institute.
Analyzing the success of the first year of operations at the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Nagpur, its Board of Governors (BOG) have agreed to increase the intake of the institute.
After a receiving a positive response from the students, the Governors have decided to add 120 seats to the institute. 80 seats will be added in the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) programme, whereas, 40 seats will be added to the Electronics and Telecommunications (E & T) programme from the session 2018.
After increasing the seats, the CSE programme will have a total of 120 seats while the E&T programme will have 80 seats.
Gulabrao Thakre, Joint Director for Technical Education said that they started with fewer seats as the facilities and infrastructure were not ready. With the proper system in place, the BOG has granted permission to increase the intake, added Thakre.

IIIT-Nagpur was started in public-private partnership (PPP) mode and is the state's first such institute, followed by Pune. The institute is currently functioning from the BSNL Regional Telecom Training Centre (RTTC), Seminary Hills.
IIIT Nagpur was able to attract good students including many top rankers. All the seats of the institute were full after first two rounds of admission.
Initially, the institute was supposed to provide 60 seats for both CSE and E&T programmes. However, after considering all the factors it was decided to reduce the number of seats. The intake was kept low to make sure that the institute is able to plan the academics and other activities properly.

Admission to all the IIITs is organized by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). There are total 32 IIITs in the country and admission to all these institutes is done on the basis of the score obtained by candidates in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE).
