<p>Ten years old Rohit is a son of a migrant labour has been living in slum area near Sainik Farm of South Delhi with his parents over the years. His parents never thought in their wildest dream that one day their son will regularly attend the school and learn English language and browse the keyboard in the computer.
But thanks to efforts of Krishna Mahesh Gayatri Sansthan (KMGS), a NGO, registered with the object for educating underprivileged children, Rohit now got all the facilities he needed for his educational upbringings.
When Rohit’s parents visit the school they bow down their head with great reverence to the picture of Late Smt. Krishna Raheja who founded the Trust several years ago.
Krishna Mahesh Gayatri Sansthan (KMGS), a NGO is patronized by Raheja developer.
Like Rohit more than three hundreds of students, hailing from migrant labour family, who has been regularly attending the classes at the Pathshala at Navodaya Project site. “Besides giving the space to learn we are also providing them all the teaching materials, books, midday meal, dress and shoes,” said Dimple Bhardwaj, Director Communication the Raheja Developer.
“We are doing our best to provide all the best of facilities free of cost. They are taught various primary school subjects like English, Maths, Hindi, Computers along with Yoga, Yagya and the Vedic way of life. Besides we are also trying our best to provide healthcare and nutrition to the underprivileged children and help them realize their potential and be contributors in “Rashtra Nirman” our dedicated team of workers has been working very hard,” she added further.
“We focus on creating a healthy community for both migrant workers as well as the local labour on various building construction sites, reaching the children of workers working at the sites.We believe that proper care and attention during the early years of a child’s life are crucial for mental, physical, emotional and social growth and it helps one to be good citizen,” said Anjali Raheja head of the KMGS.
It is to be noted that Raheja Developer has a budget for CSR equaling to 2% of net profit. “The economic reform and concomitant infrastructure boom set off major migration of construction workers from rural to urban areas. These workers have been the major contributor of India’s growth story. But they have to face sheer neglect from the society. Children of these workers have borne the brunt of a callous system in the form of poor living conditions, lack of access to nutritious food, healthcare facility, education etc.,” said Navin Raheja, CMD Raheja Developer.
“Our goal is to provide innovative and integrated education, health and nutrition programmes on the construction site itself, and cater to the very special circumstances of migrant labour children. The Balwadi- “The pre-scholars” are engaged in the process of learning through play, music, drama, puppets, stories and songs. Group play-activity around a low table or in the yard enhances their social/emotional as well as physical/motor development. This prepares them for school in more ways than one. Toys appropriated for this age group and attractive teaching-aids help them to “play and learn,” said another office bearer of KMGS.
KMGS has also helping in setting up or maintaining schools and other institutions such as orphanages, widow home, lunatic asylums etc. The target group will be children of workers who will be working at the construction sites in Delhi & NCR region.
