IIM Ahmedabad Director Prof. Ashish Nanda Resigns

He was appointed for a term of five years in 2013. His tenure was supposed to end next year i.e. in 2018. However, the resignation came as surprise because he is leaving the institute almost a year before his tenure expires.

Citing personal reasons as the reason for his resignation, Mr. Nanda officially wrote an email to the IIM-A fraternity which stated that he cherishes the time and association he had with the institute all his while. He further added that he will now focus on giving more of his time to his family. He exclaimed his gratitude towards his wife, parents, and son who had been a never-ending support in this adventure of his at IIM Ahmedabad.
The chairman of IIM Ahmedabad, Mr. K.M. Birla accepted his resignation. In the official statement, he mentioned that after deliberation and conversations about the same for the past couple of weeks, he understands Mr. Nanda's need to be with his family at the moment. He further stated that he accepts the director's resignation, albeit with regret.

Rumours such as Nanda's differences with the HRD ministry is the driving factor behind the resignation are already doing the rounds. However, no official or reliable information has been received in this context.
Professor Ashish Nanda was a former professor of the prestigious Harvard Law School because he was absorbed as the head of IIM Ahmedabad.
Earlier, former director of IIM Bangalore, Mr. Sushil Vachani had also resigned from his post three months ahead of the expiration of his tenure last year.
