IIM Ahmedabad (IIM-A) Students Get Leadership Lessons by Viren Rasquinha
- Former Captain of Indian Hockey Team and Arjuna Awardee, Mr. Viren Rasquinha interacted with the students of IIM Ahmedabad.

As a part of HTSAS (How to Start a Startup) 2.0 Series, Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) invited former Captain of Indian Hockey Team, Mr. Viren Rasquinha to deliver a talk on leadership. The main objective of HTSAS series is to impart learnings and experiences of seasoned investors and entrepreneurs to the entire nation.
Addressing the students, Mr. Viren Rasquinha recalled watching Leander Paes who had taken the podium with the tricolour rising in the background. It was then Mr. Viren decided to be the Captain of Indian team one day and win a medal in Olympics.
Recounting his two encounters against the Australian team, Mr. Viren Rasquinha remembered that the 2004 Athens games made him feel that Indian team’s training was critically lacking in comparison to that of his Australian counter paths. This particular feeling made him join Olympic Gold Quest in 2009. He took the responsibility of training Indian athletes through the organisation, he added.

Citing the examples of PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal and Mary Kom, Mr. Viren Rasquinha highlighted the training received by each of them and the different timelines at which the Olympic Gold Quest worked with all the three athletes. The organisation was engaged in training Mary Kom from 2009 for the 2012 Olympics. The unique focus and dedication of Mary Kom made her secure a bronze medal in 2012 Games, highlighted by Mr. Viren. He also hailed the dedication levels of PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal.
Adding further, Mr. Viren Rasquinha stated that the entire sporting career taught him a few lessons relating to leadership, and the way a leader could lead a team in a better way. According to him, every person in the team would have a unique role to play, and every single member of the team is valuable, he added.

Currently, Arjuna awardee, Mr. Viren is the CEO of the Olympic Gold Quest. Through this organisation, he is playing a vital role in helping Indian athletes win gold medals in the Olympics. The organisation is training over 145 athletes in six sporting disciplines. So far, Olympic Gold Quest has trained five out of last eight medal winners of India in Olympics. Apart from sporting career, Mr. Viren completed MBA from Indian School of Business, Hyderabad.
