IIM Bangalore Gets New Director, G. Raghuram Takes Charge
Assuming the charge as Director of IIM Bangalore, Prof. Raghuram expressed that he felt honored to hold the position and assured that he would take the institution to greater heights.
Prof. G. Raghuram has taken the charge as the Director of Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore. Earlier, he was the Chairman of PSG or Public Systems Group at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. Apart from holding the position of the Chairman for PSG, he is also a Dean (Faculty) of IIM Ahmedabad. Assuming charge as the Director of IIM Bangalore, Prof. Raghuram expressed that he felt honored to hold the position and assured that he would take the institution to greater heights.

Prof. Raghuram has played a significant role with his contribution in academics. He co-authored six books, wrote 155 case studies and 35 referred papers. He has been working as a faculty member at IIM Ahmedabad since 1985. He also held the position of Chair Professor at Indian Railways from January 2008 to August 2010.

Recently, the central government appointed directors for 10 IIMs across the country. Earlier, there were no directors for 14 IIMs. All these appointments were made on February 10, 2017. For the first time, a woman director has been appointed at one of the IIMs. Among the 10 directors appointed, there are two faculty members from Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow.
The central government is also taking steps to fill vacant teaching positions in IITs and IIMs. Recently, the Parliament expressed its disappointment over the faculty shortage in these premier institutes and directed the government to fill vacant teaching posts as early as possible. The government plans to increase students’ intake in IITs and IIMs, stating that filling vacant teaching positions is necessary.
