IIM Bangalore to Implement Reservation for FPM Course
- IIM Bangalore has announced that its FPM Programme will now have reservations for SC, ST and OBC Candidates.
- The alumni of the prestigious IIMs are urging other IIMs to follow the example of IIM-B in order to promote diversity.
The Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Bangalore will soon implement reservation for SC, ST and OBC candidates for the Fellow Programme in Management (FPM). The reservation policy mandated by the government will be implemented from the academic session 2018-19.
The Global IIM Alumni Network welcomed the decision and lauded IIM Bangalore to be the first amongst the IIMs to implement the reservation scheme. The alumni also urged other IIMs to follow the example of IIM-B in order to deal with the diversity deficit across doctoral programmes as well as faculty.
The network also added that providing reservation is not enough and that the IIMs must also consider providing financial aid to candidates from weaker sections who are unable to take education loans.
The Alumni Network also expressed their disappointment that other prominent IIMs including IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Calcutta and IIM Kozhikode have overlooked the appeals to introduce reservation quotas and continue to conduct admissions against the laws.

The association has also written a letter regarding the same to the President Ram Nath Kovind as well as the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asking them to ensure that reservation policies are implemented across all the IIMs for the FPM programmes.
