IIM-Bangalore Team Comes out Trumps in the International Challenge at Singapore

The prestigious Asia Private Equity Investment Leveraged Buyout Case Challenge Event was held in Singapore recently and it was the team of four students from IIM-Bangalore who won the event.

Approximately 30 teams from the world’s best schools including Columbia and London Business School participated in the event. Shikhar Sethi, Shifa Garg, Madhav Marda and Pulkit Aggarwal from the PGP 2015-17 batch won the challenge that was organized by Singapore Management University (SMU), along with the New York School of Finance.

Sushil Vachani, the institute’s director categorically stated that the institute was really proud of their achievement. There were three rounds in the event. In the first round the participants had to prepare a financial valuation, an investment thesis and a presentation showcasing the financial strategy for a globally-known firm. According to Sethi,” Working on a tight schedule we submitted our strategy and thesis and cleared the first round, along with nine other teams.” In the second stage the teams had to present their idea via Skype to the Director of NYSE, Romero, at New York.

There were five teams that qualified for the stage 3. On March 1 the students presented their analysis to a panel of judges that included Temasek Holdings and World Bank Executives amongst others. The teams that competed were from SMU, Paris Dauphine University, and Columbia Business School. The IIM-B team won the gold medal, S$5000, a scholarship and a trophy. Another student Aggarwal said,” Starting from scratch and leading up to the actual win, the event had several moments that we will cherish forever.”
