IIM Calcutta Organises Workshop on Corporate Governance in The Banking Sector
The Centre for Corporate Governance of IIM Calcutta hosted a one-day workshop on the topic of Corporate Governance in the Banking Sector. Many eminent professors, as well as industry professionals, were a part of the workshop.
A workshop on Corporate Governance was held in Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Calcutta. Many renowned academicians, industry practitioners were a part of the workshop and discussed the financial institutions in the country and laws governing it.
The workshop was inaugurated by the director of IIM Calcutta Anju Seth. The professor of Economic Group, Partha Ray from IIM Calcutta took the first lecture on the Political Economy of Central Bank Governance. He shed light on various topics such as the evolving role of the Government and other institutions, the implications of Central Bank Governance on the growth of the political economy as well as inflation. He also talked about the difference between beurocracy and technocracy. He also went on to explain the various issues relating to the RBI and the Government such as their stance on issues like inflation, demonetization, etc.
Sanjay Basu, Associate Dean of National Institute of Bank Management shared his views on the importance and incorporation of Risk Governance in financial institutions. He also expressed his thoughts on why these institutions should employ Risk Management in their decision-making process and management processes.

An associate professor of Finance and Control, Arpita Ghosh, IIM Calcutta gave a lecture on the Challenges faced by Corporate Banks in India. Issues such as financial frauds, the socio-economic impact of economic development.

Prominent members of the industry like Santanu Mukherjee who is a member of the Board of Bandhan Bank along with the Executive Director of IDBI Bank Dr. Saumya Banerjee were present for a panel discussion with eminent professors like the professors of finance Ashok Banerjee IIM Calcutta and Professor Sanjay Basu from NIBM.
