A two-day Leadership Program for the officers of the state police began at IIM-Indore on Tuesday. The objective of the program is to provide insight to senior police officers working in the field about the qualities that a true leader must possess.
The inaugural function was attended by State Home Minister, Babulal Gaur; Rina Mitra, special DG (Training), police headquarter, Bhopal and Milind Kanaskar, ADG, Rustamji Armed Police Training College, Indore.
Gaur mentioned in his address that training is extremely important to help an ordinary person excel in his skills and this training program is expected to fulfil the same motive of helping the police officers learn about communication and leadership skills. He further noted,” One continuously needs to practice his skills and enhance his knowledge in the field he belongs to, so that he is able to make quick and correct decisions when any situation arises. The continuous training would help the person to become an effective leader.”
“IIM-Indore is proud to have an opportunity to collaborate with the police department and offer this training programme. The programme will not only help the officers to enhance their leadership skills but the institute will also get a chance to learn about the contributions which can be made to support the police department,” were the words of IIM-Indore director Rishikesha T Krishnan.
Following his address there was a speech by Mitra in which the objectives of the programme were mentioned. According to her the word ‘police’ has always been related to leadership. She said,” Right from the lower level of the department to the highest level, leadership is an important factor for the proper functioning of the department.”
She discussed how leadership plays an important role in maintaining law and order and investigation. In her opinion the programme would help the officers in not only working on their motivational, communication and leadership skills but would also provide them with an opportunity to become familiar with their colleagues from various zones.
In the day one of the programme the IIM-Indore faculty gave four lectures on various topics such as Interpersonal effectiveness, Motivating Others, Group Decision Making and Building Effective Teams. The last session had a Self-Preparation/ Case Analysis/ Group Work that gave the officers an overall summary of the first day.
During the second day of the programme there would be sessions on Conflict Management, Managing Subordinates and Leadership.
Officers from across the state would attend the two-day training programme and would get a chance to enhance their motivational and communication skills that would help them effectively communicate with citizens and create a positive atmosphere for each other.
