IIM Indore Begins Seventh Batch of Integrated Programme in Management (IPM)
- Former Foreign Secretary, Mr. Shivshankar Menon interacted with the students during the inaugural ceremony.

Indian Institute of Management, Indore has inaugurated the seventh batch of Integrated Programme in Management (IPM) on August 1, 2017. The seventh batch registered a total number of 121 students. Former Foreign Secretary, Mr. Shivshankar Menon interacted with the students during the inaugural ceremony. The officials of IIM Indore were also present on the occasion.

Addressing the students, Mr. Shivshankar Menon pointed that the world is broadly divided into two categories including culture, liberal arts, classical subjects and humanities. The second category, i.e., the modern category includes hard sciences like chemistry, physics, mathematics and others which plays a vital role in developing scientific methods. He further indicated that people from these two categories often do not understand each other. Great scientists like Albert Einstein and Aryabhata did not think alike in this perspective. These two scientists were equally efficient and proficient in classical subjects as they were in their own field. Similarly, Steve Jobs often said that his passion was calligraphy and design. However, he emerged as a successful business icon, he added.

Mr. Shivshankar also mentioned that students need to have an interest in some other field at par with their own field. Today, if one wants to emerge as a successful manager, efficiency in other fields is also necessary. He also spoke about the success stories of Homi Bhabha and Vikram Sarabhai, who are great examples to get insights from.
Encouraging the students, Mr. Shivshankar Menon said that it is time for the students to start focusing on something innovative while pursuing interdisciplinary courses. It is significant to integrate both the divisions, i.e., knowledge & learning and then contribute to society as a whole, he concluded.
