IIM Indore to Launch a Non-Academic Course in Sanskrit
IIM Indore will be introducing a course in Sanskrit in a few months. The subject will be non-academic and students can opt for it if they volunteer. It will not be made compulsory for all students.
The Indian Institute of Management, Indore (IIM Indore) has taken a new step in the direction of diversity and maintaining the uniqueness of the institute. The premier business school of India has decided to start a course in Sanskrit. IIM Indore is one of the 20 Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) that have established themselves as the most reputed and sought after management colleges in the country. Thousands of students seek admission into the programmes offered by these institutes like M.B.A. (Masters in Business Administration), P.G.D.M. (Post Graduate Diploma in Management), Executive M.B.A., etc. every year.
IIM Indore will be the first top-rung management institute of India to offer a course in Sanskrit. The course will be launched as a non-academic voluntary programme which will introduce the students to the basics of the Sanskrit language. The course is being initiated because of its popular demand on the campus made by the students of IIM Indore.

The Director of IIM Indore, Himanshu Rai, gave an interview in which he said that the students approached the authorities after the International Yoga Day and requested for the introduction of the course. The students said that they faced difficulty in understanding the scriptures as most of them were in Sanskrit. Moreover, translations are said to be twice removed from the truth often, hence they do not provide the actual, authentic essence of the scriptures to the students.
The plans about executing the Sanskrit are being worked upon at the institute. The class of Sanskrit could follow after an hour of yoga. The director said that if the course gathers considerable interest from a specific number of students then it could be institutionalised as well. However, Rai made it extremely clear that this Sanskrit course is not being “inflicted” on anyone.

IIM Indore is also promoting several other languages like Kannada, Telugu, and Tamil. The library of IIM Indore has already been stacked with the books in these languages. It is important for the prestigious colleges, institutes, and universities of India to set some standards so that others can follow them. All the other institutions look up to these premier colleges and try to incorporate their ideas so as to do better. IIM Indore has always been taking inspirational steps and initiatives and the introduction of new courses is one of them.
