IIM Jammu, Deakin University Australia Come Together to Offer Innovative Pathway Courses for Indian Students

IIM Jammu and Deakin University Australia have come together to sign an agreement to develop innovative pathway courses for Indian students. The educational institutes have also provided the Indian students with an option to transfer their studies onshore at Deakin in Australia.

In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, the agreement was signed off virtually by both parties in the presence of some senior representatives. Professor Jabir Ali, Dr Aakash Kamble and Director Professor B.S. Sahay from IIM Jammu and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Global Engagement), Professor Gary Smith, Executive Dean, Faculty of Business & Law, Professor Mike Ewing, and Deputy Vice President (Global), Ravneet Pawha from Deakin University, Australia were present during the signing of the agreement. Brett Galt-Smith, Counsellor (Education & Research), Australian High Commission, New Delhi virtually witnessed the entire ceremony.

The strategic models of engagement will be carried out in a phased manner and have been identified to form the basis of the association. It will provide an opportunity to MBA students at IIM Jammu to study onshore at the campus of Deakin University Australia for two weeks and complete a module. The immersion programme will provide deep insights into the global business perspectives and will completely be IBL centric.

The next phase will involve the partner developing a few hybrid pathway options for the MBA students of IIM Jammu. A newly developed Executive MBA programme at the Indian Institute of Management, Jammu will include a few units from DBS' flagship MBA program as a part of their curriculum.

The Director of IIM Jammu, Professor BS Sahay elaborated that such collaborations with top-notch global universities align with the mission and vision of IIM Jammu to curate an institute par excellence. He further said that this kind of collaboration also increases international linkages providing a global outlook with a national and regional focus.

Speaking at the launch day, Brett Galt-Smith from the Australian High Commission stated that high-level academic collaborations of this kind stand in sync with the India Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. These collaborations serve as a founding pillar for the future of any bilateral relationship. He further added that such moves expand research and education collaboration between the two nations as it provides an opportunity to collaborate with world-class researchers and teachers and helps students to gain international exposure as well as experience for their future careers.
