IIM-K Opens New Phase V Green Campus with 5-Star GRIHA Rating

The Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode (IIM-K) inaugurated the Phase V Green Campus on 23 January 2020. Located in Kunnamangalam, the campus has been designed while incorporating a multitude of environment-friendly measures.

The Kunnamangalam campus has a built-up area of 3 lakh square feet and is spread across 15 acres of land. Due to the water, soil and energy conservation measures that have been adopted in the campus, it has been awarded a 5-start rating under the Green Rating for Integrated Habit Assessment (GRIHA). GRIHA was founded by The Energy and Resourced Institute (TERI), New Delhi with the support of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) with the motive of promoting sustainable development and setting benchmarks on what constitutes a 'green building'.

Many prominent personalities were present at the unveiling of the plaque of the Phase V Green Campus. The unveiling was done by Dr A. C. Muthiah, the Chairman of Southern Petrochemical Industries Limited (SPIC) and former Chairperson of Board of Governors at IIM-K, and Mr K.C. Mohan, former Member of the Board of Governors at IIM-K and Member of the Subcommittee of Construction. The Director of IIM-K, Debashish Chatterjee was also present at the event.

Among the eco-friendly measures adopted in the campus are a 50kW Solar Energy Harvesting, rainwater harvesting pond and storage tanks with a storage capacity of up to 40-lakh litres, a sewage treatment plant etc.

In addition to the environment-friendly measures, the campus boasts intelligent classrooms fitted with state-of-the-art technology to aid in day-to-day teaching and learning activities. The classrooms have been readied for cloud-based conferencing, which will allow students to participate in sessions from anywhere around the world.
