IIM Kozhikode Makes its Curriculum 'Contemporary' with New-Age Courses
The PGP curriculum of IIM Kozhikode will be updated from this academic year. The institute has introduced new-age 'contemporary' courses to upgrade the programme.
The flagship Post Graduate Programme (PGP) of IIM Kozhikode (Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode) will start offering contemporary courses as a part of its regular degree’s curriculum. The subjects of Data Analysis and Digital Economy will be introduced in the first year of the course, and research will be made compulsory in the second year.
The new courses that will be offered by IIM Kozhikode include Design Thinking, Sustainability in Business, and Business Model for the Digital Economy. Many structural changes have been made in the course curriculum like including a component of analytics in the standard course of quantitative analysis.
An Associate Professor at IIT Kozhikode, Keynoor Purani, who is also a member of the curriculum review committee, spoke about the introduction of new subjects and said that some of these courses have been available in the institute as electives but the authorities realised that students need to be exposed to these subjects. The curriculum has also been broadened and will be introduced in the second year of the programme of PGP.

An approach of ‘immersive leadership track’ has also been introduced in order to challenge students to solve projects by using conceptual knowledge. This method is designed to combat the issue of students not being prepared in the traditional classroom teachings to apply their learnings in real life. Such projects are to be introduced in the second year of the PGP course.

This new curriculum designed for IIM Kozhikode’s PGP programme will be implemented from this academic year itself and the programme will be reviewed and updated every couple of years, as per the institute. The institute has formed a committee consisting of experts that will have the responsibility of bringing about the revisions.
