IIM Nagpur Introduces 10% EWS Quota for 2019-20
The Indian Institute of Management will be increasing the number of seats in their institute to accommodate the new 10% EWS quota as per the guidelines set by the Government. A total of 10 seats will be increased for the 2019-20 academic year.
As part of the new change brought in by the Government of India to help make the lives of the people belonging to the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), the Indian Institute of Management Nagpur has decided that they will be implementing the new 10% EWS quota from the next academic session of 2019-20. The EWS quota will cover candidates belonging to the general category.
As per the 124th Amendment (Constitution Bill), organisations and educational institutions are required to provide 10% reservations to the poor in the general category. The Indian Institute of Management Nagpur has decided that they will increase the number of seats by 10 which makes the total number of seats to 130 seats at IIM Nagpur, as stated by an official release.
In a statement made by the director of the Indian Institute of Management Nagpur, L S Murthy stated that due to lack of the necessary infrastructure needed to carry out the implementation of the EWS Quota of 10%. He further stated that they have planned to implement the entire 10% quota by the academic session of 2020-21 as per the guidelines provided by the Government.
The Indian Institute of Management has provided the students with a format that they can follow to fill out income and assets of the family, which will be required to be mentioned in order to avail the facility of EWS quota. Along with this facility, the institute also provides the students with the ability to upload the income and assets certificate on the online portal of the Institute, which can also help them make changes if needed.

The press release that was released by the Indian Institute of Management Nagpur stated they will be following the criteria for that has been mentioned by the government. It further added that the EWS quota will be applicable for all the candidates who do not fall under quotas reserved under SC, ST and OBC categories as well as candidates whose families have a total income of ₹8 lakhs and under.

Sources state that the total income of the family of the candidate will be calculated by adding up all the sources of income that the family has such as their salary, business, profession, agriculture. The candidates must provide the Institute with the proof of income for the year of admission of the candidate. Sources further state candidates whose families own a residential plot with a size of 200 sq yards or above, a 1000 sq ft or above residential flat or own 5 acres or above of agricultural land will not be included under the EWS quota irrespective of the gross income of the family of the candidate.
