IIM Rohtak Hosts Its First Film Summit

IIM Rohtak organised its first edition of Film Summit- a completely new initiative of-its-kind as a part of its tradition of foraying into its uncharted territories.
Several, industry experts from Bollywood exchanged their views about the technicalities associated with the process of film-making. Over the past few years, Indian Entertainment business has enjoyed the exponential growth. The summit was organised to realise a growing need of creative and business professionals in the entertainment business. While the theme of the summit was Making India a Global Entertainment Superpower.

The director of the institute Prof. Atanu Rakshit flagged off the event. In his speech, he also highlighted how managers can play an active role in the evolvement of Film Industry.
In a jam- packed hall several leading experts from the film Industry shared their views. Rahul Puri, MD at Mukta Arts said that cinema Business had been facing tough competition not only from TV soaps but also from web series and sports for viewers. Mr Saiwyn Quadras, Story and Screenplay writer of blockbusters- Neerja and Mary Kom fame also took the dais and spoke in brief.
Writer, Director and Producer Ms Megha Ramaswamy, also showcased one of her own creations- Newborns- based on acid attack survivors. It is a seven-minute documentary.
Vishal Kaushik, a second-year student of the institute and the event coordinator also said how the emergence of global television renaissance, regional film industries, rising ticket prices, entry of international studios and ever increasing screen count have generated tremendous opportunities for business professionals. He also elaborated how students from MBA stream can identify the underlying opportunities and generate business models out of them.

Faculty-in-charge of the event Dr Suresh Jakhar said that since the Indian film industry has been growing at a high speed and it is the right time that Students of IIM Rohtak can contribute a lot. The summit is a step towards creating awareness among the students about the business opportunities in the film industry.
The interactive and insightful addresses by the speakers had the audience listening with rapt attention. In the question answer- session the students had asked several questions to know about the intricacies of the business.
