<p>The Indian Institute of Management Rohtak hosted its second Internet Startup Summit on 31st October 2015. This summit focused on the theme “Indian Internet Enterprises: Competing on Global Platform”. It featured two-panel discussions with eminent personalities from leading start-ups.
The path from ideation to implementation for businesses has become remarkably comfortable, much to the credit of the digital transformation in progress in the Indian start-up landscape. With around half of India’s population under the age of 25, it is set to be the youngest country by 2020. The aspirations of the youth are unbounded and they want to chase the vision, not the money. This paradigm shift in the mindset has led to a boom in the start-up culture, making India the fastest growing and 3rd largest start-up ecosystem globally.
The summit was flagged off with a welcome address by Prof P Rameshan, Director of IIMR. Before the first-panel discussion began, Punit Modhgil, Co-Founder & Managing Director, Octane Marketing, gave a keynote speech during which he spoke about the internet of things and the need to balance expectations and deliverables in this new market space. The first-panel discussion revolved around the question whether Indian start-ups are mere clones of their foreign counterparts. Ankur Sardana, AVP-Product & Design, Zomato, who was also the moderator for the panel, highlighted the pressing need of inculcating innovative practices right from schools. Cariappa CK, Founder & Chief Evangelist, Wolf Marketing said that multi-billion dollar companies like Amazon, Google were not pioneers in their fields. It was the execution of ideas that pulled them through.
Dhyan Chauhan, Head-HRD, CashurDrive delivered a keynote address on ‘Tough Road ahead for Non-Tech start-ups’. The second-panel discussion was centred on the topic ‘Mobile Revolution: Catching the eye of Global Tech Giants’. The way mobile revolution has transformed how we live, work, learn, travel, shop, and stay connected was the cornerstone of the discussion. Mohit Ahuja, COO, Cratuz Technology Group, and Jagminder Pal Singh, Director, Goibibo emphasised on exploring mobile platforms to stay relevant in today’s rapidly changing market.
Keeping learning in line with the industry needs, IIM Rohtak organised this exclusive event. Developing an entrepreneurial outlook among the students was the major objective. With the boisterous appreciation that the Internet Summit received, IIM Rohtak is firmly on the way to realising its vision of becoming a global centre of learning and knowledge creation.
