IIM Shillong Wins ‘Steel-a-thon 2017’, an Annual Business Challenge
- Tata Steel organises 'Steel-a-thon', an annual business challenge competition every year.
- This year, IIM Shillong emerged as the winner of the competition, while IIM Indore emerged as the first runner-up.
Indian Institute of Management, Shillong has achieved another milestone by winning the annual business challenge competition organised by Tata Steel, titled ‘Steel-a-thon 2017’. The grand finale of the competition took place in Kolkata on November 27, 2017. A total number of 16 B-Schools across the country contested in the grand finale and presented their business case solutions to the jury members comprising of senior management officials of Tata Steel. Vice President of Tata Steel (steel marketing & sales), Mr. Peeyush Gupta led the jury team.

The case studies focused on different domains including: -
- Supply Chain and Logistics
- Marketing and Sales
- Human Resource Management
- Corporate and Digital Strategy
The 4th edition of Tata Steel annual business challenge competition – Steel-a-thon 2017 witnessed the participation of 1,600 teams comprising of 5,000 students. Last year, in the third edition of the annual business challenge, only 1,000 teams participated.

In Steel-a-thon 2017, the following teams have emerged as winners and runners-up: -
- IIM Shillong emerged as the winner of the 4th edition of annual business challenge competition.
- IIM Indore emerged as first runner-up in the competition.
- JBIMS Mumbai and SIBM Pune emerged as second runner-ups.
The champions of the competition, i.e., IIM Shillong bagged a cash prize of Rs. 2,50,000 along with a certificate and trophy. A team from IIM Indore bagged a cash prize of Rs. 1,50,000 and a certificate. The second runner-ups, JBIMS Mumbai and SIBM Pune were awarded Rs. 1,00,000 as a cash prize along with a certificate.
