IIM-Vizag, to Begin Classes from Next Month

According to G. Srinivasa Rao, the State HRD Minister, classes are likely to begin in the third or fourth week of September. The intake in the first year will be 45 as against the usual 60 in other IIMs, as the required infrastructure has to be built up.
Classes have begun at IIT, Tirupati, for which IIT, Madras, is the mentor institute. The Union Government will spend Rs. 700 crore on the permanent campus and other facilities for IIT, Tirupati, and also Rs. 870 crore on the Indian Instiute of Science and Education Research coming up near the temple town.
According to Smriti Irani, more than Rs. 3,000 crore will be spent in the next few years over the higher educational institutions coming up in AP. The Union Government has also promised a central university and a petroleum university for the state. The Petroleum University may be located in East Godavari district as central team have already visited Kakinada and Rajahmundry for the purpose.
