IIMB to Launch UG Course in Liberal Arts, New Online Courses Planned
IIMB to launch a new UG course in Liberal Studies in its Golden Jubilee Year in 2023. The institute plans to create high-quality digital education in "sectors which require it the most".
The Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB) is planning to start an undergraduate course in Liberal Arts in its upcoming golden jubilee year - 2023. Inclusion of the course is a part of the expansion plans of IIMB, under which the institute plans to include new areas of education under its wing. It will be offered at the Anekal campus of IIMB.
The announcement was made by Prof Rishikesha T Krishnan, the Director of IIMB, at the institute's foundation-day programme held on October 28, 2020. Prof Krishnan talked about the institute's vision of creating the next generation of leaders who will be able to face the challenges of the upcoming century.

IIMB is also planning to create digital education programmes in the fields of hospital management and public policy. In this regards, Prof. Krishnan talked about the pioneering role of IIMB in offering MOOCs (massive online open courses) and digital education in the field of management. IIMB now plans to take its expertise of creating management leaders to sectors with the most requirements. Hospitals and Healthcare, MSME, Public Policy and Management were the sectors that Prof Krishnan listed.
Dr Devi Shetty, the Chairman of the Board of Governors of IIMB, was also present at the event and he expressed his optimism that India will emerge a winner after the COVID-19 pandemic due to the adaptability of Indias. The Chief Guest at the event was Dr Gagandeep Kang, Prof. of Microbiology at Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore.

Delving of IIMB to new arenas of education is good news for the upcoming batch of students who want to explore new sectors. It will also help to trigger the creation of high-quality knowledge and avenues of learning in areas that are often found lacking or are not as developed as management in India. While a new era of digital and online education has already been ushered in due to COVID-19, institutes such as IIMs taking conscious steps to make them more accessible and of better quality, combined with the radical changes listed in the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 inspires hope for a better future of higher education in India.
