IIMC Launches Course on Ancient Arts Treatise
- IIMC is set to introduce the Indian communication models in its curriculum from the current academic session.
- The step is also aimed at improving the scope of research in the field of Natya Shastra.
Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC) has launched a new course on ancient treatise on performing arts. The major objective of the course is to inculcate the intricacies of Indian communication theories including Natya Shastra of Bharat Muni which is based on ‘Simplification’ (Sadharanikaran). Dr. Nirmala Mani Adhikari, a Nepalese scholar, advocated the ‘Simplification’ ideology.
A few universities in India including Makhanlal Chaturvedi University already have a course on Indian communication models which will be replicated by IIMC. Aspiring journalists and public relations professionals will be introduced to the Indian communication models.

Director General of IIMC, Mr. KG Suresh revealed that inclusion of Indian communication models in the curriculum is surely a positive idea. It will not foist any religious viewpoint on students on the basis of the same. Students will only be able to get a detailed understanding of India’s achievements in the past in various disciplines including communication.
Mr. KG Suresh also mentioned that IIMC has been teaching ‘western models of communication’ which will be continued to be taught. At the same time, Natya Shastra will expose the students to Indian models. It will also expand the scope of research in the field in India following suit to what many foreign nations have already been doing.

The module on Indian communication models will be taught to students from the current academic session. The new course will also lay emphasis on ancient past, contemporary history along with its transition to a democracy.
