IIMs to Conduct Centralised Interview for Admissions
The IIM cooperation forum which constitutes of various high-rank government officials and IIM directors to take a decision today in the capital to introduce common interview for all IIM institutes from the upcoming admission session.
The next academic year is likely to hold a centralised IIM Interview so that the candidates who aspire to be IIM students will not have to visit separate IIMs throughout the country for admissions. The candidate after clearing the CAT or Common Admission Test may apply for the centralised Interview session for admissions in the institute branches located at various parts of the country. The admission will be depending on the final score of the candidate in Inthe interview.
The coordination forum of the Indian Institute of Management (IIMs) will come up with the issue in the first-ever meeting which is set to be held on Wednesday in the capital in which, the proposal will get the nod or will be rejected. Currently, all the IIMs hold individual interviews for admissions in their different campuses and also there are differences in the selection criteria of the different campus. The centralised interview will also address this problem. A central government employee said on this note that some institutes put emphasis on the diversity where there are many other institutes who do not. He added that it is likely that the issue of the common interview process will be brought up in the meeting but also there will be discussions about greater cooperations between the IIMs throughout the country.
Another official said that the proposal came to disseminate the burden on the students who travel to all IIMs for admissions. He explained that different institutes want students who are most suitable for them but the process creates a long waiting list of students and is highly time-consuming, with the help of the centralised interview, much time and efforts will be saved for the institute to complete the admission process.
The meeting will also discuss on the subscriptions of the same journals and magazines in all the IIM institutes as it will be helpful to save costs because the publishers offer discounts on bulk orders and subscription.
The meeting is a part of the coordination forum which was proposed in the Indian Institute of Management Act 2007. The forum has all the high officials of IIMs such as directors and four Chairpersons. The forum is headed by the secretary of the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development or MHRD.
The meeting today will also select a temporary chairperson of the forum until a permanent chairperson is decided from the pool of its members.
