IISc Bangalore Collaborates with British Telecom Giant BT for Research on AI

The research centre which is set up with the collaborative efforts of British Telecom and Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore will be take up research to develop AI technologies for global clients.

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore collaborates with the British telecommunication Giant BT to open a cutting edge research centre for conducting research on new trends of subjects and fields such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), software engineering and many more.

The BTIRC or BT India Research Centre is a franchise of research centre supported by BT across the globe in the countries like China, United States, United Arab Emirates and Northan Islands. The official notification has however made it clear the official BT Labs for global networks will be centred at Adastral Park, Suffolk, the UK which is one of the most important telecommunication research centres across the globe.

The Director of IISc Mr Anurag Kumar said that the institute looks towards for being an academic partner to the new joint research centre being established by BT in IISc Bengaluru with great anticipation.

He added that he is hopeful that the collaborative project topics of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Mobility along with software development will catch the interest of students as well as the faculties. Mr Kumar sounded hopeful as he said that he expects many new inventions will be born from the newly established research centre.

The opening of this new research centre is the commencement of an interesting new chapter for BT, and for UK-India collaborative research, said Professor Tim Whitley who is the Managing Director for Research at BT. Praising the extraordinary intellectual capital available at Bengaluru, Mr Whitley Said that the innovations in the sector of AI, Mobility and Software from the centre will be marketed over the world.

The BTIRC will manage multiple research tracks, centred primarily on artificial intelligence, software engineering and mobility for utilisation in BT's strategic plans, products and services. According to the statement issued by BTIRC, its future areas will cover cybersecurity innovations as well.
