IISc Professor Wins Infosys Prize
He has been awarded for his contributions in the field of cardiovascular and pulmonary health.
Prof. V. Kumaran, Department of Chemical Engineering, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore has won the prestigious Infosys Prize 2016 announced by Infosys Science Foundation. He has been awarded for his contributions in the field of cardiovascular and pulmonary health.
V.Kumaran is one among six who received this prestigious award. They are: -
- Prof. Akshay Venkatesh (Mathematical Sciences)
- Dr. Anil Bharadwaj (Physical Sciences)
- Prof. Kaivan Munshi (Social Sciences)
- Dr. Gagandeep Kang (Life Sciences)
- Prof. Sunil Amrith (Humanities)

All the six members will receive a cash prize of Rs. 65 lakh, 22 karat gold medallion and a citation certificate. Nobel Laurate and Royal Society will felicitate the members on January 7, 2017, in Bangalore. S.D. Shibulal, Foundation President, mentioned that they received a total number of 252 nominations this year which is the highest till date. Among them, six members have been selected for the award, and Infosys Founder, N.R. Murthy confirmed the names.

Recently, the government announced Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Awards. Rishikesh Narayan of Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Banglore has bagged the award in the Biological Science category. However, no women have achieved the award this year. The awards are conferred by the Ministry of Science and Technology. It is a prestigious multidisciplinary science award in India. It was initially awarded in the year 1958. Eminent professors from Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, Kanpur and Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, Mumbai bagged the award for their exceptional contributions in the field of science.
