IISERs Seek Government's Nod to be Included in PMRF Scheme
- Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs) have raised concern and urged government for inclusion in Prime Minister Research Fellowship (PMRF) scheme.
- At present, candidates who qualify can pursue research only at IITs and IISc.
Considered among the top-notch institutes for research and development, the Indian Institutes of Science Education & Research (IISERs) have not been included in the recently launched Prime Minister Research Fellowship (PMRF) scheme offerings.
However, IITs and IISc, that enjoy the same privileges and a similar stature and reputation have been bestowed with the benefits of the PMRF scheme. Candidates who qualify for the scheme will be able to pursue research at Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and Indian Institute of Science (IISc). Dejected with the same, IISER has raised its concerns during a meeting with the President and other heads of IITs and IISc. It has sought the government's intervention in making IISERs a part of the scheme hereafter.

IISERs are of the opinion that capable students who wish to undertake research can also pursue their Ph.D. from IISER under the PMRF scheme. They have reportedly also sent a formal written request to the President with regards to the same. But, since the scheme has been approved by the Cabinet, changes and amendments immediately are unlikely.
