IISER Kolkata Best in Terms of Research Output among IISERs

Among all the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), IISER Kolkata has been given the best ratings in terms of faculty productivity. There are five IISERs in India that are dedicated to education and research in the field of science.

Talking about the performance of the institute, Director of IISER Kolkata, Prasanta K Panigrahi, said that the institute has been delivering better than the expected outputs.

The Director further added that the on comparing the research outputs to the faculty strengths of all five institutes, IISER Kolkata in Nadia district performed best.

All the IISERs were assessed for close to a year from March 2016 to February 2017 in order to draw the performance statistics of all these institutes. Mr Panigrahi added that IISER Kolkata was ranked best among all IISERs in the h-index.

Several students of IISER Kolkata have also received scholarships for pursuing Ph.D. as well as carrying out their post-doctoral research at some of the best universities in the world.

Some of the popular universities that have invited students of IISER to participate in research programmes are Yale University, Oxford University, Ohio State University, Stanford University, John Hopkins University, University of Cambridge and ETH Zurich.

Arindam Kundagrami, Dean of Student Affairs (DOSA) informed that students of the premier institute have also started an outreach programme to help poor children.

The initiative named 'Ek Pahal' has been started by the Institute to empower the children who come from the underprivileged segment of society.
