IIT Bhubaneswar Sets UpTwo New Hostels in its Phase-2 Expansion
The expansion plans of the Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar has introduced two more hostels. The hostels, separate for boys and girls, provide 800 and 400 seats respectively. The total number of seats has now increased to a massive 2,200 seats, while, there are plans for another hostel as well.
After the Indian Institute of Technology, Bhubaneswar has shifted its campus later in the year 2018, the second phase of its expansion started to take form from January of 2019. With the on-going expansion programme, the institute has been successful in launching two new hostels for its students, both of which have been dedicated separately for Boys and Girls.
The two hostels, viz. Brahmaputra Hall of Residence for Boys and Ganga Hall of Residence for Girls, have been inaugurated increase the total number of seats available in the hostel to 2,200. With the boy’s hostel providing 800 new seats, meanwhile, the girl’s hostel sees the inclusion of 400 new seats. Both the hostels had been inaugurated by Governor Ganesh Lal along with the teachers and students of IIT Bhubaneswar.
Previously, the Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar had created two hostels with the 800 seats in the boy’s hostel and 200 seats in the girl’s hostel. This was done during the phase-I of the expansion project. With the introduction of the two new hostels, the issues of fewer seats in the hostel’s will now be reduced. When the institute was first launched, the hostel capacity was just a mere 100 seats. There are further plans for the institute to increase the number of seats even more with the establishment of one more hostel.

Between the two phases of expansion, the Indian Institute Technology Bhubaneswar had received a total of ₹2120 crores at two separate instalments. Using the fund that they had received, the institute was able to build four school buildings in the first phase of expansion, while they introduced three new schools, viz., School of Minerals, Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (SMME), School of Humanities, Social Sciences and Management (SHSSM), School of Earth, Ocean and Climate Sciences (SEOCS).

Among the plans and the infrastructure development of the Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar in the phase-II of the expansion plan, the institute will be building a humungous lecture hall which will have a seating capacity of 6,500 seats along with another boy’s hostel being added to the existing two. There will also be the establishment of another multi-purpose hostel, meanwhile, many infrastructures will be included to assist in the academic and non-academic development of the students such as central workshop and central research centre, amphitheatre, auditorium, playing fields, etc.
