IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) Bombay is aiming to become a world-class university by 2022. For achieving its dream, IIT Bombay is planning to bring in research funds to the tune of over Rs. 500 crores. Similarly, IIT Bombay is planning to offer non-engineering courses. For the first time, IIT Bombay framed a five-year strategic plan to set specific targets, which should be achieved by 2022.

As per IIT Bombay’s Strategic Plan 2017-18: -

  • The premier institute will increase donation receipts to Rs. 100 crore annually by 2022.
  • Similarly, IIT Bombay will increase research funding to Rs. 500 crore.
  • IIT Bombay is planning to launch a Master’s course in Film Making.
  • The internal revenue of the institute will be increased to Rs. 150 crores by 2022.
  • IIT Bombay will set up 10 new multi-disciplinary research centres on its campus.
  • There will be an increase in the number of additional hostel rooms and seats.
  • Courses in Arts and Humanities will be launched soon.
  • Apart from Arts and Humanities, IIT Bombay is chalking out a detailed plan to launch UG courses in Social Sciences, Management, Biology, Earth Science and Mathematics.
  • Apart from offering supernumerary seats to women, IIT Bombay is aiming to engage women students and faculty members with girls in colleges and schools.
  • IIT Bombay will enhance engagement with society and industry.
  • The other initiatives as per Strategic Plan 2017-18 are developing a greener campus, enhancing the engagement of alumni, advancing frontiers of knowledge, enhancing the student experience and improving internal support systems.

IIT Bombay prepared the Strategic Plan as per the directives of Ministry of Human Resource Development. Currently, IIT Bombay is receiving 45% of funds from non-MHRD and government sources.
