IIT Bombay Foresee a Surge in Placements 2017; Apple Likely to Visit Campus
- IIT Bombay is expecting an excellent placement season this year with some offshore firms participating in 2017.
- The institute has not confirmed that whether Apple Inc. will be recruiting students from IIT Bombay or not.
The Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT-B) is expecting to host some of the top companies this placement season. The institute is expecting that the placements 2017 will turn out to be better than placements 2016 at IIT Bombay.
In 2016, the institute had witnessed a drop in the number of offers as well as the salaries offered. However, in 2017, the institute is expecting to welcome some offshore companies that will be hiring students from the Institute for the first time, informed Professor in Charge of Placements at IIT Bombay, Tom Mathew.
Mathew also added that the institute has recorded some positive changes in the placement trends. While rumours are rife that Apple Inc. will be participating in the campus placement of IIT Bombay, Mathew has refused to confirm the news.
According to recent reports, various other top engineering institutes have also claimed that Apple will be recruiting students from their campus. Earlier this month, IIIT Hyderabad also announced that Apple will participate in their campus placement.
Apple Hiring in India:
Although Apple has circulated its application forms amongst various prospective interested graduates, the company has not released any official declaration that it will be hiring students from the either of these institutes.
The applications for the preliminary short-listing exam were given out on November 12 and the test will be conducted in the last week of November. Apple will be shortlisting students from these prestigious institutes for its facility in India.
The slots will be arranged according to the companies visiting the campus. The Head also added that if they don’t hear it from Apple within the next three to four days, they will arrange their slots accordingly.
Startups and PSUs at IIT Bombay Placement:
In another development, Mathew informed that the startups that were blacklisted last year will be allowed to participate this year. The companies in the first slot have not been decided yet as PSUs – that were given the first slot in 2016 – have not yet confirmed their participation.

Placements at IIT Bombay will start from December 1, i.e. after the semester exams. Mathew informed that the placement rounds will comprise three to four preliminary short-listing tests varying from company to company.
