IIT Bombay to Promote Concept of E-Community through a New Portal
In a move to bring all the students faculties, tech enthusiasts and other interested people under one online community, IIT Bombay will very soon launch a new portal.
In a move to bring all the students faculties, tech enthusiasts and other interested people under one online community, IIT Bombay will very soon launch a new portal. These communities will facilitate members to discuss issues of common interest and create a repository of knowledge.
The move is taken as a part of the National Virtual Library Mission with support from Union Ministry of Culture. Professor Deepak B Phatak of IIT-B said that they are going to launch a beta version of the portal within few months. The final portal would be ready by the end of the year.

Phatak was is in Hyderabad on Monday, 27 February 2017 to take part in this year's Knowledge Management Summit. The two-day summit was organised by the apex business body named Confederation of Indian Industry or CII.

- BVR Mohan Reddy, Former Chairman and Client Executive Chairman of Nasscom
- Ganesh Natarajan, Chairman National Committee on Knowledge Management of CII
Pathak said that the automated online communities will be able to discuss on important issues. They are backed by good cloud support. Stakeholders from different fields based on their interest, topics and subjects can join the discussion. It will recognise people with a good rating. It will also highlight the names of the volunteers who have good ratings to move forward in the group. There can be a number of groups on diverse issues.

Addressing the inaugural function, he said that the education system of India has been separated from research and skills. The end products of colleges are without any skills. This needs to be changed. Academics, skills and research have to be amalgamated. The education system of the country needs to encourage students to be curious and promote inquisitiveness. But instead, now students are driven by marks and they are not able to articulate their mind.
