IIT Bombay Holds 58th Convocation in Virtual Reality (VR) Mode
IIT Bombay conducted its 58th convocation in Virtual Reality (VR) mode where personalized avatars of students received degrees from the personalized avatar of IIT B Director. The event is path-breaking and clearly indicates the dominance of Artificial Intelligence.
IIT Bombay’s 58th convocation ceremony took place on August 23, 2020, and the surprising aspect of the ceremony was VR (Virtual Reality) mode. Considering the safety of students during this Covid-19 pandemic, the premier institute conducted the convocation ceremony in VR mode, which is not only path-breaking but also amazing. The institute felt that no student is deprived of achievement and pride of passing out from top premier institute of India.
The convocation was planned in such a way that a personalized avatar of each graduate received a degree from the personalized avatar of IIT Bombay Director, Professor Subhasis Chaudhari. Meals were also awarded to the top-performing students by the personalized avatar of Chief Guest. The convocation ceremony was live-streamed on the official YouTube channel of the institute and Facebook.
Presenting the annual report of IIT Bombay, Professor Subhasis Chaudhari indicated that offering virtual reality experience to graduates was the result of innovative and tremendous efforts by the professors and staff of the premier institute. The objective of such an initiative is to make graduates think big and come up with more innovative ideas.
The way IIT Bombay conducted the VR mode of the convocation is an example of how Artificial Intelligence is playing a vital role in different sectors. It is apt to say that the technology associated with AI will be the future, and this will lead to the generation of better employment opportunities. As most of the top private and premier institutes have started offering a course in Artificial Intelligence, such initiatives will encourage more institutes to come up with innovative courses in the field.
