IIT Delhi Launches Book on Gandhi for the Visually Impaired
The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi released a book on Mahatma Gandhi to commemorate his life and work. However, the book has been released for the visually impaired using different visual aids like braille. The book has been released in both Hindi and English languages.
Indian Institute of Technology Delhi renamed the Gramodaya Parisar after Mahatma Gandhi. The institute also released a touchable book structuring his life.
Raised Lines Foundation, a Non-profit startup from IIT Delhi, had released three books for the visually impaired students using visual aids such as Braille. One of the books that have been launched by the startup includes the book of Mahatma Gandhi. Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, the books have been published in braille and are available in Hindi and English.
The book on the Father of the Nation has been priced at ₹445 and describes his life and his teachings and works. Pulkit Sapra, a representative from RLF, stated that the book highlights the “life, work, and teachings of the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi”. He added that the book also includes “tactile representations” of certain key elements as well as different articles of the Mahatma’s life.

Many other educational institutions took steps to commemorate the Mahatma’s life and teachings. Among the other institutions, Indira Gandhi National Open University and Jamia Millia Islamia have announced the decision to ban single-use plastics from their campuses. To help the institution ban single-use plastics, Jamia Millia Islamia has issued an order that bans the commodities. Furthermore, IGNOU has signed an MoU with the South Delhi Municipal Corporation to ensure that single-use plastics such as plastic spoons, straws and polythene bags be kept away from IGNOU’s campus.

With institutions taking steps that promote a better life for the people of the society, students will become more socially-aware. This will help the students to also learn and adapt to the changes and needs of society.
