IIT Delhi Opens Extension Campus in Sonipat
- As per the reports, the new extension campus will primarily focus on research, product development and innovation.
- It will also provide assistance and aid to Ph.D. students of the campus.
Manohar Lal Khattar, Haryana Chief Minister inaugurated the extension campus i.e. Technopark of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi at Sonipat on 3 April 2018. The main aim of the extension campus is to provide research-related assistance to students and promote innovation across the market to meet global standards in the field of innovation and research.

As per the reports, Indian Institute of Technology Technopark will primarily focus on research, product development and innovation. Whereas IIT Delhi will collaborate with industry and government agencies. They will mainly work towards advanced technological solutions.The new extension campus at Sonipat will be an outreach campus for quality development and innovation. It will also provide assistance and aid to Ph.D. students of the campus.
The IIT extension campus at Sonipat is located at the Rajiv Gandhi Education City-RGEC. The Technopark has a convention centre with an auditorium. The convention centre has a seating capacity of around 500 persons. It also has two lecture halls which can accommodate 100 persons along with conference rooms.

The new extension campus also has facilities for start-ups incubation and corporate R&D labs. It also has other facilities such as furnished suits and double sharing rooms. The suites have residential accommodation for delegates and visiting faculty for both long term and short term stay.
Haryana Technical Education Department has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with IIT Delhi for the establishment of IIT Delhi Technopark at Rajiv Gandhi Education City in Sonipat. Haryana Government will be providing the institute with 50 acres of land for setting up of the extension campus of Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. The campus will be established in Kundli district of Sonipat and at Bhadsa in Jhajjar.
The main aim objective of Haryana government and IIT Delhi is to establish a close cooperative relationship between the two. According to Haryana Technical Education Department, this will provide training and growth opportunities for small and medium enterprises ( SMEs) Haryana. It will also help to provide technical training to both faculty and students at the institute.

According to the MoU, students from the technical institutes and colleges from Haryana state will be offered up to 10 seats in a quality improvement course. The training programme will be organized by IIT Delhi at its extension campus in Sonipat. The course will be free of cost, candidates will be only required to pay for their lodging and boarding expenses. The Ph.D. students of the state can avail the central research facility at the Sonipat campus of IIT Delhi.
