IIT Delhi Aims at Enrolling 500 Foreign Students by 2024

IIT Delhi has declared that it will enrol around 500 international students in its Ph.D courses. This initiative has been taken by the institute to achieve global level research results and is expected to happen in the next five years.

The Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi (IIT Delhi) has set a target for itself of enrolling over 500 foreign students over a span of the next five years. On 24th July 2019, Wednesday, IIT Delhi organised a summit meeting and invited diplomats from several countries to showcase the opportunities provided by the institute.

The summit was named ‘Globalisation of IIT Delhi: New Opportunities for Higher Studies in India’ and was attended by Education Attaches and Ambassadors of around 12 countries that included Sweden, Indonesia, South Korea, Mexico, and Britain.

Professor V Ramgopal Rao, the Director of IIT Delhi, addressed the summit and said that the target of the institution is to have at least a total of 10 per cent foreign students in its Ph.D programmes. They aim to enrol 500 foreign students so that they can work on technology platforms that serve global needs in the longer run. Foreign students can apply for doctorate courses (Ph.D) in 28 academic units of IIT Delhi, which includes atmospheric sciences, applied mechanics, and biochemical engineering as well.

The Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi also presented the International Ph.D Fellowship Programme (IPFP) during the summit. IPFP is a newly launched fellowship that will be offered to the meritorious international students and will provide liberal financial assistance to them. The primary aim of IPFP is to promote and encourage the best talents from around the world to join the Ph.D programmes offered by IIT Delhi.

IIT Delhi is also considering inviting the teachers and professors from various academic institutions from different countries to join the faculty of IIT Delhi.
