IIT Delhi and Microsoft to Host Assistive Technology Solutions Conference from Oct 14
IIT Delhi and Microsoft India have formed a partnership to host a conference on Assistive Technology solutions for the differently-abled people in India. The conference is scheduled to held from Oct 14 to 17th at I-TEC at the Sonipat Campus of IIT Delhi.
In a bid to promote the availability of assistive technologies, Microsoft India has announced that it has collaborated with IIT Delhi. An event for the purpose with a host of policymakers, technologists and researchers will be discussing the various methods and steps that can be taken to develop and offer assistive technologies.
As per sources, Microsoft-IIT Delhi event for assistive technologies is scheduled to be held between 14th October 2019 to 17th October 2019. The event has been proposed to be held at I-TEC at IIT Delhi Sonipat. Sources add that different Disabled Persons’ Organisations and Non-Governmental Organisations are also expected to participate in the event.
The Principal Researcher at Microsoft Research India, Manohar Swaminathan, stated that Microsoft has been able to develop various Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning technologies that are aimed at being used in areas with low resources. To enable the community of designers, technologies like embedded ML libraries will be available to enrich the lives of the differently-abled people in India with the help of AI and ML, he added.
Swaminathan further added that the conference is a step towards bringing together designers, researchers, and people who are differently-abled to and provide a platform where the needs of the differently-abled are understood and solutions are designed.

From the CSE Department at IIT Delhi, M Balakrishnan, Founder of ASSISTECH and Professor, stated it is important to include and integrate differently-abled students in the society. For this, they should be offered equal opportunities in education and mobility, which is imperative. He further stated that Assistive Technologies will help in allowing us to be a part of the overall development of the Society.

It is important to discuss the possibilities and opportunities that can be developed for the differently-abled people, which will facilitate the overall development of society. Coming up with technologies to assist the differently-abled people of the society, will not only facilitate overall development but also allow the differently-abled to partake in the overall development.
