IIT-Delhi Students Organise Run for a Cause to Prevent Road Accidents
- IIT Delhi students organise marathon to promote road safety.

Students of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi, stepped out of their campus and conducted a running event to motivate the duty of keeping the roads safe. Close to 300 students of the institute along with locals of the nearby communities participated in the event.
The theme of the campaign started by IIT Delhi was themed around keeping the Indian roads safe. The students and locals ran on the roads on Sunday, May 14, 2017, to spread awareness regarding the deaths caused by road accidents. India records the highest number of road accidents across the world.
The marathon was organised by the students of IIT Delhi in collaboration with World Health Organisation (WHO) and Delhi Traffic Police. The name of the event was ‘Run for a Cause’ and it was conducted as a part of the Fourth UN Global Road Safety Week.

Co-founder of Indian Road Safety Campaign, Amar Srivastva, said that the event was conducted to instil a feeling of road safety among the people and to spread awareness regarding speeding hazards.
He also informed that one-third of the fatal road accidents are caused due to speeding in developed and developing countries. Various countries have taken speed managing initiatives to reduce the number of road crashes, Srivastva added.

He also added that the aim of the 4th UN Global Road Safety Week is to make people realise that road safety is of utmost importance in order to build a successful nation. The event saw participation school students, professional runners, college students as well as the faculty of IIT-D faculty.
