IIT Delhi to Offer Free B.Tech Admission under New Scholarship Scheme Funded by Alumnus
IIT Delhi has proposed free Btech degrees to the 15 students with weak financial conditions and also two leadership based award to the final year students for internship & exchange programs.
Demonstrating a benevolent gesture, Mr. Amit Sinha, an alumnus of the 1998 batch, IIT Delhi has presented Rs. 10 Crores to the university through Amit & Deepali Sinha Foundation. This scholarship will cover all the expenses related to education for the top 5 undergraduate students joining each year. The scholarship will be calculated on the basis of the JEE Advanced Ranks. Out of the top five rankers, one will be awarded to the top woman JEE Advanced ranker for the year, encouraging the women in STEM.
Besides the scholarship to the top 5 rank holders, it will also provide financial assistance to 15 students who belong to economically fragile families, along with two leadership-based awards to the final year students for supporting internships and exchange programs.It will also add two faculty positions in computer science and electrical engineering.
The scope of the electrical engineering faculty will provide services are nano electrics, renewable energy, & wireless communications on the other hand the computer science faculty will provide services in cybersecurity, quantum computing, and artificial intelligence.
While recalling his past times in IIT Delhi, he thanked the institute and further added how the institute had contributed to shaping his life, he belonged from a middle-class family in Jamshedpur, he recalled all the good times that he had spent in the institute making deep friendships, a strong career and some of the most memorable years and the foundations made on the campus.
Appreciating the contributions made by Dr. Sinha, the director of IIT Delhi, Prof. V Ramgopal Rao, and CEO Vinay Piparsania thanked them for the contributions and added that these contributions further add as inspiration not only to the faculties but also students, and also increase the competitiveness of the institutions for attracting new students and faculty. IIT Delhi is proud of the students who serve as role models for the institutions. Prof.Rao also added that Amit Sinha's contribution will help in attracting the best students to the institute which will lead to academic excellence and success of students.
Dr. Amit Sinha, the president and member of Zscaler, a cloud base information security company with headquarters in California. The foundation set up by his wife and him aims at providing academic excellence, wellness & health. It provides fellowships and endowments to the leading institutions and many other non-profit organizations for supporting academic, health, and wellness. He earned his BTech degree in electrical engineering from IIT Delhi, and S.M & Ph.D. in electrical engineering and computer science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge, was awarded the President of India gold medal. He has authorized over 25 journals/Conference papers, contributed to 3 books, and is the developer of 36 US Patents pending or granted. He is an independent director at DataRobot and the inventor and advisor of many startups besides Zscaler.
