IIT Gandhinagar to Establish Research & Technology Development Hub to Help Dye Industries
Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Gandhinagar will soon set up a Common Research and Technology Development Hub or CRTDH on chemical processes.
With an objective to help the dye industry in meeting the norms of pollution, Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar has come up with a solution. IIT Gandhinagar will soon set up a Common Research and Technology Development Hub or CRTDH on chemical processes. For this purpose, a total amount of Rs. 4 crores has been granted by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research or DSIR. On the other hand, IIT Gandhinagar will spend Rs. 2 crores to support the dye and dyestuff clusters in Gujarat.

CRTDH will play a significant role in developing a chemical process technology lab as well as a pilot plant facility to demonstrate the waste reduction, process intensification and enhanced effluent treatment technologies which are developed at Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar. The centre will also play a vital role in helping Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) in the sector of dye in terms of training, research and testing of products and raw materials. The main purpose is to give them an advantage in the competitive market.

Principal Investigator, Prof. Chinmay Ghoroi revealed that CRTDH would also play a major role in helping chemical industries for improving existing chemical processes as well as waste treatment. The initiative will help dye MSMEs who do not have lab facility and technical expertise.
Several faculty members of IIT-Gandhinagar from Materials Science, Biology, Engineering, Chemistry and Chemical Engineering departments will collaborate and work on the project.
Gujarat is the second largest exporter in the area of chemical industry, and it is contributing about 7% of share in the global market.
