IIT Gandhinagar’s 2016 Batch Launches Scholarship Programme for Junior Students

With an objective to encourage the economically backward students, the 2016 B.Tech batch of Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar have come with a noble initiative, i.e., the scholarship programme for junior students. The students have volunteered to support the Alma mater of the institute through this initiative.

The scholarship scheme has been named as ‘Class of 2016 Scholarship’. Under this scheme, the students have set up an endowment fund that creates the scholarship for economically backward and meritorious students. A total number of 30 students from the 2016 B.Tech batch are actively donating to the scholarship scheme every month.

Danish Mansoor is the first student to receive ‘Class of 2016 Scholarship’. Through this scheme, he will receive a monthly scholarship of Rs. 2,000 up to ten months. The alumni of the institute have decided not to reveal the names of those who have helped in the same at the moment.

Director of Indian Institute of Technology, Gandhinagar, Mr. Sudhir Jain expressed his happiness over the fact that the students who have just completed their B.Tech degree started to make regular donations to the scholarship scheme. He appreciated the spirit of the alumni and their continued association with the institute.

Currently, IIT Gandhinagar has the total alumni of 750 members and around 10% out of the total members are donating to the institute. One of the officials revealed that most of the students who are donating to the institute are those who benefitted from the institute and developed their skills. Most of these students got placed in reputed companies and are donating some of their monthly savings for the scholarship scheme.
