Achieving Gender Equality: IIT Guwahati Surpasses Female Enrollment Target
IIT Guwahati has surpassed the female admission ratio prescribed by the Apex Committee of JEE Board. The institute’s new programmes have played a crucial role in achieving the target.
In the current batch of B.Tech programmes, the Indian Institute of Technology - IIT Guwahati has witnessed an enrolment of 18.46% of female students in the institute which has surpassed the target set by the institute by 1.46%. IIT Guwahati had previously taken aim to take 17% female candidates onboard abiding by the rule of apex committee of Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Board.
829 students were admitted to IIT Guwahati this year in the B.Tech courses. Out of 829 students, 676 are boys and 153 are girls as compared to 608 boys and 112 girls last year. Also, 40 students have been admitted to B.Des course this year. Out of which 24 are boys and 16 are girls.

Several orientation projects were conducted by IIT Guwahati this year.The academic orientations were either headed by the deans or the director of the institute where the department orientations were presided over by the department heads and department faculties.

From this year, IIT Guwahati has launched a new course as well. The new course of M.Tech in Data Science in IIT Guwahati has received a good response in the maiden year. Courses like B.Des and M.Tech in Data science has worked like a magnet to attract students in the institutes.
IIT Guwahati surpassing Female Enrollment Target For 2019 is one of the great achievement for the institute.
