IIT Guwahati Introduces Unique B.Tech Course on UN-Sustainable Development Goals 2030
As per the principles of the goal, the course will be educating the students about sustainable development in the country and how to make society better for everyone.
IIT Guwahati has introduced one of its kind, a course on UN-Sustainable Development Goals 2030 as a B.Tech specialization. IIT Guwahati is the first institute in India which will be introducing this course from the next academic year in its curriculum. As per the principles of the goal, the course will be educating the students about sustainable development in the country and how to make society better for everyone. The course will be added to the curriculum as a compulsory subject to be taught to the 2nd year Engineering students.
The course will outline the 17 Sustainable Goals as decided by the world leaders in the year 2017. Due to the wide disciplinary nature of the course, faculty members from 9 departments will be collaborating to adopt the course in the institute. These nine departments will include Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, Department of Bioscience and Bioengineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Chemical, Mechanical, Electronics & Electrical Engineering, Physics and Design. All the departments collectively will be responsible for educating students about the importance of sustainability goals in 2030 for society.

The course will enable the students to understand the 17 sustainable goals and meet the 169 targets of the SDGs. The topics which will be covered through the course includes growth, sustainable cities, inclusive society, transport, technology, designs, the digital revolution, sustainable production & consumption etc.
